A look back at QuMOMI’s annual meeting
Members of the QUMOMI project, from the laboratory Matériaux et Phénomènes Quantiques (MPQ), the Néel Institute, and CEA-LETI, gathered at the MPQ laboratory on May 6, 2026, for the project’s annual meeting.
QuMOMI is led by Bruno Fain, a research engineer, and Guillaume Jourdan, a CEA researcher, both from CEA-Leti. The project aims to develop a quantum interface between microwaves and infrared optics in France, at the level required for future advancements in quantum technology.
Progress Report
This meeting provided an opportunity for an in-depth review of the progress of the various ongoing research initiatives, with particular attention paid to the characterization of the optomechanical crystals at the heart of the converter device currently under development, the experimental challenges encountered, and the approaches being considered to overcome them. The discussions also helped identify the most promising scientific directions for the coming months and define future priorities.
Scientific presentations
The day featured presentations by the project’s new non-permanent members, helping them integrate into the consortium. Participants also had the opportunity to explore the MPQ laboratory’s facilities during a tour of the experimental platform, including the optical and cryogenic equipment that will play a central role in future experiments focused on realizing quantum effects.
Beyond the scientific and technical aspects, this event provided a special opportunity for discussion and camaraderie, strengthening the bonds between the teams and reinforcing the project’s collective momentum. Finally, these rich and constructive discussions helped lay the groundwork for the next major milestones of the QuMOMI project and reaffirmed the shared ambitions that drive all the partners.
