Overview
The QCommTestbed project aims to provide France with a nationally coordinated testbed, used for demonstrations of quantum communication applications.
Keywords: Quantum communication, quantum networks, quantum cryptography, quantum optics, infrastructures, optical fibers, optical ground stations
In a nutshell
The ambition of the QCommtestbed project is to act as a springboard for technologies developed nationwide, from the laboratory system stage to the commercial product, by testing them under field conditions and with performance benchmarks linked to advanced protocols and associated use cases. The project is based on an academic consortium bringing together proven and complementary expertise, and is in line with large-scale initiatives undertaken in Europe and worldwide. It will consolidate and enhance this expertise to position France as a world leader in this field.
The consortium’s research and innovation activities revolve around two major quantum network infrastructures deployed in Paris and Nice. The consortium’s research work is aimed at developing innovative and operational quantum devices for quantum communications. An equally important aspect of the project is the development of quantum communication protocols, and above all the assessment of their security in practical cases.
Challenges
- Provide France with two real-field test platforms based on standard optical fiber networks (Paris and Côte d’Azur regions), coordinated on a national scale, and potentially connected via the space segment. These platforms will be used for demonstrations of quantum communication applications showing a progressive TRL rise, from laboratory systems to commercial products.
Tasks
- WP1: Setting up and operating the infrastructure
- WP2: Development of photonic demonstrator technologies
- WP3: Demonstrations of quantum communication protocols
